The human community and the natural world will

go into the future as a single sacred community

or we will both perish in the desert.

                                                                                    -- Thomas Berry

Dayspring Earth Ministry is a mission of Dayspring Church, an ecumenical Christian Church, located  on 206 acres of former farmland that is now a rich mosaic of woodlands, meadows. ponds, and stream valleys.  Dayspring began in 1953 as the retreat center of the Church of the Saviour in Washington, DC, a widely recognized model of church renewal.  Today Dayspring Church is an independent faith community carrying on that tradition, combining a deep inner life of prayer and silence with active mission and prophetic witness in the world.

Dayspring Earth Ministry began in 1988  and over the years has offered communion with God and the whole community of life through outdoor worship and liturgy, preservation and restoration of natural habitats, Earth Sunday School and Sabbath walks on the land, wilderness retreats, and a variety of classes, retreats, and workshops.

Since 2000 we have been led toward a larger dream out of a deep calling to explore ways of living more simply, justly, and in harmony with the Earth.   We have built an Earth ministry center called, Simple Gifts.  To the two small, energy efficient staff cottages and solar-heated greenhouse already built, we added organic intensive gardens for vegetables, wildflowers, medicinal plants, and fruit and nut trees, based on principles of permaculture.
